The first day’s recording at station PALK (distance 14 degrees) beginning one hour after the main earthquake occurred and filtered to display waves of period longer than 200 seconds.  The prominent signals in the plot are surface waves produced by the original earthquake recorded as they orbit the earth.  With each orbit, the waves diminish in amplitude as their energy decays away.
