During the past twenty years, the US earth science community, through
the IRIS Consortium and its partners, has built a facility that has
provided unprecedented access to the seismological data underlying some
of the most important advances in our science. This year’s annual
workshop will be a celebration of our community through the lens of
seismological observation and integrated earth science. The workshop
also will highlight the partnerships that have contributed to the success
of IRIS, and will explore the broader impacts of IRIS’s education
and outreach programs. This will not merely be a retrospective, however.
The direction of IRIS is our collective responsibility. Thus, the workshop
will aim to capture the community involvement that motivated the formation
of IRIS and the development of the EarthScope initiative, in order to
maintain and foster the discussion on the Consortium’s future.
